10 Non-Toxic Kitchen Recipes to Detox Home

Hey you missed a spot… Well actually the entire kitchen is still dirty. You may be confused because you bought all those expensive cleaning products that promise to get the job done but did you ever wonder what residue may be left behind? Well I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but most of the commercial cleaning products that are advertised and displayed in most of the aisles are filled with some of the most toxic ingredients that will make you sick.  Many cleaning products contains ingredients such as Phthalates, Ammonia, chlorine, Parabens, Triclosan, etc. all of which are known to be carcinogenic, cause hormone disruption, reproductive toxicity, neurotoxicity , skin irritations and respiratory issues. These products are most likely the reason for the health issues you may be experiencing and I want to help you on your journey to better health. Here is a list of 10 non toxic kitchen recipes to detox your home today and eventually throw those chemical laden products away.

ALL PURPOSE DISINFECTANT

  • 1 cup  of water 
  • 1 cup of white vinegar
  • 20 drops of essential oil of your choice (optional)

Mix all ingredients in a spray bottle. Shake gently. This All purpose cleaner is able to clean most surfaces except wood and stone countertops. This formula is amazing on stainless steel.

NON-TOXIC DISH SOAP

In a large bowl, mix the water, Castile soap/Sal Suds together until dissolved. squeeze in the juice of one lemon along with vegetable glycerin and essential oil of your choice. Pour into an old dish soap container and use as you would any dish soap.

NATURAL DEGREASER

In a large bowl, dissolve salt in the warm water. Add the Sal Suds and vinegar and stir lightly. Pour into a spray bottle and use as necessary.

 MICROWAVE OVEN CLEANER

  • 1 lemon
  • 2 cups water

Cut the lemon in half and place in a large bowl. Pour water into the bowl. microwave mixture for 3 minutes. let mixture remain in microwave for 1o more minutes without opening the door so that the steam can loosen up any debris. Open door and wipe surface clean.

OVEN CLEANER

In a large bowl, combine baking soda, lemon juice and water to make a paste. Spread mixture over entire oven then let sit for 5 minutes. Pour white vinegar into a spray bottle and spay the entire surface that is covered with the baking soda mixture. Wipe surface area clean with warm water and a sponge.

DRAIN CLOG REMOVER

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 4 cups hot water

First pour baking soda down the drain. Followed by the white vinegar. This reaction will create a foaming action that will dissolve the clog in the drain. Secondly, let this solution remain in drain for 20 minutes before pouring hot water down the drain. Repeat as necessary.

CUTTING BOARD CLEANER

  • Soapy hot water ( using our DIY Dish Soap)
  • 2 tbsp salt
  • 1 whole lemon (cut in half)
  • 3% food grade hydrogen peroxide

Wash cutting board with soapy hot water and allow to dry. Scour board with half of lemon dipped in a thick layer of salt. Leave on for 5 minutes. rinse and dry. Finish by spraying hydrogen peroxide on the board then let sit for 5 minutes. rinse and dry.

CAST IRON SKILLET CLEANER

  • Hot water
  • 3 tbsp salt
  • 2 tsp olive oil

Apply hot water to cast iron skillet and scrub with sponge or brush until cleaned. If food particles persist, sprinkle a generous amount of salt to skillet and rinse with hot water. Make sure skillet is completely dry before rubbing olive oil over the entire surface.

FLOOR TILE CLEANER

  • 1-2 cups water
  • 6 tsp baking soda
  • 3 tsp Dr.Bronners Sal Suds
  • 10-20 drops essential oil (optional)

In a large bowl, add baking soda to water and mix until dissolved. Add Dr. Bronners Sal Suds along with essential oils. pour mixture into glass spray bottle and gently shake bottle to mix all ingredients. Spray floors and wipe clean with micro fiber cloth/mop.

DISHWASHER DETERGENT

  • 1 cup washing soda
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  •  1/4 cup salt
Combine together the salt and washing soda. Mixture can be stored in an airtight container for later use.Add 1 tablespoon of mixture to detergent compartment and pour the vinegar to the bottom portion of dishwasher. Wash as usual for sparkling dishes.
